Wayne Turner was instrumental in the good, harmonious results of our family’s succession planning exercise.
Our situation was like most I imagine, with parents having partially transitioned off farm, and siblings both on and off farm. Wayne’s acute understanding and perspective of rural businesses, in particular ours, meant he could guide the process to an amicable, fair result.
My parents always said what they wanted to achieve may not always be equal, but they hoped for it to be fair. Wayne’s focus was to ensure viable farming businesses remained, while retirees and off farm siblings needs were appropriately considered. This was facilitated by Wayne’s strong communication skills involving tact and sensitivity. Whilst maintaining the formality to get things done, he knew when to give the process time, when to push the process along and how to mediate when needed. I am quite sure that without Wayne our succession planning outcome would not have been what it is today.
Wayne focused on maximising the personal financial positions of each family member, being very mindful of our personal and commercial circumstances. His strong financial, accounting and tax knowledge also meant we were able to explore several different options before the most advantageous pathways forward were achieved. He also project managed and worked closely with our lawyer to ensure the best results.
